Business Executives and Owners: 3 Recommendations to Help with Your Company’s Success

As management and owners for your company, you are running operations for the success of the company, but you may feel you are missing a piece of the puzzle to help get to your company goal or the “finish line” with a project. Being an experienced administrative professional for the last 20 plus years, I know that having a qualified administrative individual with a skill set you are missing  will assist you and your company with your puzzle, and have found two articles that highlight the importance of that missing skill set.

In his article “16 Undeniable Skills of the Rockstar Administrative Assistant in 2020”, Jeff Murphy goes in depth about the ever-changing skills an administrative professional brings to your organization. These skills include creative problem solving, emotional intelligence, multi-tasking, resourcefulness, tech savviness, and much more. Skills and traits as discussed in this article help provide some context to why having an administrative professional is key to the success of your organization.

However, in her article “Adding Value in Uncertain Times”, Stephanie Naznitsky outlines the critical skills an administrative professional can bring in these uncertain times. Although companies are finding different ways to operate in our current environment, the skills outlined in this article are key to helping your company operate without missing a beat.

If you find that you or your company are lacking some of the skills an administrative professional, here are some items you should consider:

Evaluate what you are missing – the skills outlined are key traits to help with a successful business, and if they are lacking in your company, evaluate where you need those key skills.

Define the role – administrative professionals are considered jacks of all trades. Clearly define what you require from your professional to help with your company’s success.

Find the right fit – after you have evaluated what you are missing and defined the role, determine whether you need help with those skills on a full or part time basis, and on in-person or remote basis.

In a time where larger companies are forced to make tough personnel and staffing choices, the skill set of an administrative professional can get overlooked at how valuable they are to a company’s success. At the same time, smaller companies may be struggling with their success but not sure what to seek out to help them gain momentum. The administrative professional brings all those critical key traits and skills for any size of organization and will work with and alongside you to work towards your company’s success goal.
